If you missed the opening reception, you must come out to the Station Gallery to see Rich Harydzak's exhibit of large oil paintings done with a vibrant palette knife technique.
SHUTTERFLIES 2017 WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!
Shutterflies 2017 was very successful and a super creative outlet for our Clinton County students! We have attached a handful of images showing them in action.
Many of them completed some excellent final works, using our technology and even used their own cellphones. They also completed a lesson in cyanotypes one day, which gave them a deeper knowledge of the photographic process.
Our Instructors this year were two recent Lycoming College grads who are heading off to grad school in California – Emma Daniels as our lead instructor, assisted by Samantha Cutrona.
Thank you all again! The students were so enthusiastic and we know that they are anxious to continue their photographic endeavors!
Thanks to our generous sponsor, Woodlands Bank!

At the December 8th Board meeting, The Clinton County Arts Council held officer elections for the 2017 / 2018 term. Carol Ann Simon Cillo was elected Board President of the CCAC which runs and operates The Station Gallery. In addition to the gallery, the CCAC has been the driving force within the region to connect and promote the arts within Clinton, Centre and Lycoming counties.
Outgoing President Steven L. Getz stated, “Planned change is a good thing and periodically adjusting the leadership roles in any organization creates energy to accomplish new and exciting goals. I couldn’t be more confident in the direction of the CCAC to continue our mission of art enrichment in the region. Carol has considerable experience in leadership roles and we are excited to have her head the board. She brings a rare combination of business and art skills needed to guide the CCAC in the direction the board of directors has outlined over the past 5 years while developing new objectives and strategies for the future. Her business, government and art connections within the region are essential for the prosperity of the organization. She has my total support and I will remain on the board to assist her in any way. By stepping down as Board President, I can now concentrate on several art enrichment projects that have been on hold over the past 3 years. This will take a lot of focus and I am excited to work with other board members to make this a reality.
I will also remain as the LH JAMS director for 2017 to assure another successful festival and help grow it into a signature event for Lock Haven and the surrounding community.”
Carol Cillo is dedicated to continuing the mission of the CCAC and promoting all of the arts in Clinton County stating, “ The arts council is very fortunate to have community members willing to support and participate in the wide variety of opportunities we offer for development of the arts. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life in Lock Haven, Clinton County and the surrounding area – and that can only be possible through the combined efforts of our dedicated Board of Directors, community leaders in business, education and government. We have more new and exciting plans coming up soon, and hope to always keep things fresh, of high quality and diverse interest.”
Three other board officer positions were also filled during the December meeting. Donna Wilson will serve as Vice President of the CCAC and focus on sustainability of the organization, community relations and Co-Chair the search committee for future exhibits. Ron McGinniss will continue to serve as treasurer and Jennifer Deitloff as board secretary.

Upcoming Exhibit: Dave and Deb Stabley
The original and uniquely beautiful works of Central Pennsylvania artists Dave and Deb Stabley will be showcased at The Station Gallery September 30 through October 23.
This show – the fourth of the 2016 Invitational Artist Series – will open with a reception on Friday, September 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Station Gallery, 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven – where folks will have an opportunity to get a close up look at the intricate, colorful and evocative ceramic pieces and paintings made by the couple.
Deb and Dave have worked full-time as artists since they formed their business, Creative Clay Works, in 1984. For 16 years, they worked out of the studio at their home near Bloomsburg. Over the course of their careers, they have sold their works nationwide through galleries and craft shops on a wholesale basis, as well as in juried gallery shows. They have also participated in numerous arts and craft fairs where they sell their work. In addition, the Stableys have taught many workshops from elementary to university level, are featured in numerous books and magazines and are involved in art activities in their local community, including their membership in Artspace, a cooperative art gallery in Bloomsburg.
Deb and Dave have gone through many artistic changes over the years, as they explore and experiment with new directions, according to their website. Recently, their work has focused on clay work.
In 2014, the couple opened up The Clay Studio at the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, where they share their own work while encouraging others to express themselves through clay. The Clay Studio is a part of Pajama Factory's nonprofit organization Factory Works, which also encompasses Woodshop, Darkroom and Bicycle Recycle.
Both Deb and Dave are employed as art professors at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport.
Dave, born in Lancaster, earned his Bachelor of Art degree from Millersville University and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, focusing on ceramics. His teaching experience includes workshops for elementary through high school students to a graduate assistantship, and being an art school owner and instructor, and more. He has been featured in various publications and earned various awards for his work.
Deb was born in Ambler, Pa., and went on to earn her Bachelor of Art degree in art education from Millersville University. She, too, went on to earn a Master’s degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, although she studied Curriculum and Instruction.
Deb also has taught various art workshops and classes for folks of all ages. She shows her work across the country, largely in the Midwest and Northeast, and has participated in dozens of group shows, from Pennsylvania to Oregon, to Tennessee. She has served as joint coordinator for the Artists’ Studio T our in Bloomsburg, and earned 1st Place- Excellence in Crafts at the Bruce Museum Show, Greenwich, Conn.; 1st in Crafts at the Fine Arts Fiesta, Wilkes-Barre in 2010; and more.
Deb and Dave have served as a board members and co-directors for Ceramics Center—the Center for Creativity.

Follow Up: LHJAMS JAzz & Art Festival
After roughly two years of planning, the first ever Lock Haven Jazz and Art on Main Street (LH JAMS) Festival was held – and it was every bit the success we hoped it would be!
Nearly 150 people attended the Art & All That Jazz Reception, held Friday, Aug. 19, which raised funds for the 2017 festival – setting the stage for what is yet to come!
Speakers at the reception included CCAC President Steve Getz, who – along with CCAC Vice President Carol Ann Simon Cillo – conceptualized the LH JAMS Festival; CCAC board member Mary Coploff; Donna Wilson, provost and vice president of student affairs at Lock Haven University and CCAC board member; Eddie Severn, director of jazz studies at LHU and LH JAMS artistic director; and former Lock Haven Mayor Rick Vilello – who now serves as executive director for the Governor’s Center for Local Government at the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. The evening was punctuated with a cash bar, music by Saturday performers and hors d'oeuvres.
About two hundred and fifty people made their way to downtown Lock Haven on Saturday, August 20 to hear the tunes of nine different bands – Just Jazz from Uptown Music Collective, Zeropoint Big Band, Last Resort, Marko Marcinko Latin Jazz Quintet, Gabe Stillman & the Billtown Giants, Swing-nova, Nancy & Spencer Reed, Steve Rudolph with Eddie Severn and The Rick Hirsch 4.
Vendors lined the sides of the streets Saturday afternoon, restaurants placed tables out front for guests and artists Brienne Brown, Susan Nicholas Gephart and Karl Leitzel painted live, en plein air for attendees’ enjoyment. A short bout of rain didn’t deter the resilient crowd – who took shelter for the brief rain and found their seats again shortly afterward.

Shutterflies Camp To Return
The Clinton County Arts Council has announced that, in July, it will again offer the popular Station Gallery Shutterflies photography camp for middle-school aged children. The CCAC also intends to offer a videography camp in the late summer or early fall.
Held last year for the first time, the photography camp allows students to get a hands-on digital photography experience, learning from regional photographers. The week-long day camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, July 18-22. It will accommodate up to 15 youngsters. The registration fee is $20.
The camps serve as a component of the CCAC's mission to promote, develop and support the arts in Clinton County. Offerings serve as special art camps for students exhibiting interest and/or talents in the visual arts. A nonprofit organization, the CCAC will help seek individual sponsorships for students who may be unable to afford the registration fee.
Up to 15 students, ages 11 to 14, will be admitted to each camp. To register for the camps contact the CCAC at ccacgallery@gmail.com, 570-748-0949 or 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven.
Thanks to a sponsorship from Woodlands Bank, a 2016 Tourism Grant, and a 2015 Clinton County Community Foundation grant, the CCAC will again be able to offer the Station Gallery Shutterflies photography camp to middle school-aged children. Funding provides student participants with equipment to use during the camp.
The camp enables 15 children, or "Station Gallery Shutterflies," to learn the basics of digital photography, identify a subject or theme and create a photography space. The students will create a final project, such as a portfolio or calendar, as a souvenir.
This year’s Station Gallery Shutterflies photography camp will be led by photographers Dave and Lynne Becker, who have owned and operated Becker’s Photography studio since 1982. With experiences in commercial and portrait photography, as well as exhibiting as fine artists, the couple has a plethora of knowledge in the field. In their personal work, Dave loves black and white and abstract photography and Lynne loves alternative
photographic processes.
Pioneers in the medium, Dave and Lynne are award winning photographers. They have continued to update their skills through involvement in professional organizations, including Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Pennsylvania, Children's Photographers of the World, and Senior Photographers International and Senior Portrait Artists, to name a few. They have been certified by the Professional Photographers of America since 1987 and in 2015 Dave was honored as a life member.
A minimal $20 registration fee for students will cover costs associated with souvenirs, including t-shirts, a portfolio, disk of their work and a framed selection. The CCAC will also seek sponsors and scholarship opportunities for children who may not be able to afford the registration fee. The students will be able to access resources available at The Station Gallery, such as images on exhibit, iMacs and professional editing software, equipment used to frame photos, and they will take photos both inside and outdoors.
At the end of the week-long camp, students will choose an image from their portfolio they deem worthy of display, and they will learn to frame the photograph. Following the camp, the finalized 15-photo collection will be displayed at The Station Gallery during a final exhibit. Woodlands Bank, the county and Clinton County Community Foundation will be recognized during the exhibit.
PA Wilds Honors CCAC President
Eleven residents, business owners, and organizations from across the Pennsylvania Wilds region were recently recognized for their contributions helping to foster the region’s nature and heritage tourism industry – and one of those honored was CCAC President Steve Getz.
The PA Wilds Champion Awards are given out annually as part of the PA Wilds Conservation Landscape movement, a ground-breaking partnership that began in 2003 to grow the region’s outdoors industry in a way that creates jobs, diversifies local economies, inspires stewardship and improves quality of life.
The Pennsylvania Wilds, one of the state’s 11 official tourism regions, covers about a quarter of the Commonwealth and includes the counties of Warren, McKean, Potter, Tioga, Lycoming, Clinton, Cameron, Elk, Forest, Clarion, Jefferson, Clearfield and the northern part of Centre county.
This year’s PA Wilds Champions hail from all corners of the region and their awards reflect values promoted through the landscape work: partnerships, creativity, stewardship, giving back, creating new opportunities and local leadership.
“The people and communities across the Pennsylvania Wilds contribute in many ways to this exciting Conservation Landscape Initiative,” said Jim Weaver, Chair of the PA Wilds Planning Team, which organizes the awards. “By identifying and celebrating the wonderful work that is being done across the region, the PA Wilds Team hopes to inspire others to catch and harness the enthusiasm that is the essence of our rural communities.”
The awardees were recognized at the PA Wilds Annual Dinner & Awards Banquet April 28 at the Red Fern in St. Marys. This year’s theme was “Celebrating Our Public Lands.”
Steve Getz of Lock Haven, CCAC president, was named the PA Wilds 2016 Artisan of the Year. Getz is an accomplished artist, designer and arts advocate who has championed arts efforts at the local and regional level, including working on behalf of the PA Wilds.
An accomplished painter and designer whose work has earned many recognitions and appeared in galleries, museums and other collections, Getz is probably best known among the Wilds network as one of the faces of the Station Gallery, which he and others at the Clinton County Arts Council transformed from an abandoned train depot to a stunning gallery that hosts thoughtful – and very well attended – art shows throughout the year. He has also been instrumental in organizing arts events and festivals, such as Clinton County Arts Council's Harvest Days and the upcoming Lock Haven JAMS festival in August.
Perhaps lesser known is that behind the scenes, Getz volunteers on behalf of the PA Wilds Artisan Trail and is a champion of the Pennsylvania Wilds brand. The Artisan Trail has gone through significant changes over the last few years, including a major strategic planning process in 2015 that is repositioning the program for long-term growth under a new brand identity, the Wilds Cooperative of Pennsylvania. Getz has been there at every turn to talk through concepts and ideas, to host events, and to explain changes to current and potential artisans, trail sites and partners. Getz has understood from the beginning that a big regional arts-related business development program doesn’t just come out of the box fully formed. It has to be built, brick by brick, and that it takes a lot of people contributing to make that happen in a meaningful and sustainable way.
Also honored from Clinton County are the James H. and Shirley A. Maguire family, who received the PA Wilds’ 2016 Outstanding Leader Award; and the Bucktail Watershed Association, which received the PA Wilds’ 2016 Conservation Stewardship Organization Award.
